Syscon Advanced Report Writer Workshops I and II for Sage Master Builder
Detailed Course Description


The Syscon Advanced Report Writer Workshop is intended for experienced users of Sage Master Builder (SMB) that wish to maximize their ability to extract and manipulate data from this powerful program.

Workshop I (4 class hours)

This class will begin with the form designer in SMB including:

  • complex designs
  • multiple page reports
  • use of logos and graphics on reports, calculated fields and queries
After the form designer, the SMB report writer will be studied in detail including:
  • Selecting the proper primary table
  • Grouping
  • Sorting
  • Selection criteria
  • Subtotals and totals
  • Basic and advanced calculated fields
  • Complex use of grouping and sorting for unusual report needs and patterns
  • Complex use of selection criteria for unusual report needs and patterns
Procedure documents and examples of forms, reports, a reference document for calculated fields, and examples of calculations and queries will be provided as part of the class materials.

Level II (4 class hours)

Level II goes deeper into the underlying table structure and relationships of the data stored in Sage Master Builder. This information is useful not only for the SMB report writer, but for those who are using other reporting tools such as Crystal Reports or Microsoft Visual Foxpro or Microsoft Access. The class will cover:

  • Review of all primary, secondary and tertiary data tables in Master Builder
  • Key value data relationships between primary and secondary data tables
  • Reading and using the information in the Master Builder field library
  • Designing complex reports in Master Builder and in third party tools such as Crystal Reports and Visual Foxpro

Class materials will include advanced data diagrams, data maps, example reports, example reports specifications.

This is a hands-on class where students are encouraged to work with their own data and reports.
